Here’s the before and after pic. Looks like I’m getting better on how to turn nothing into something. Stuck on the background though. Any ideas would be appreciated on what could I use for a textured, sculpted background. Thanks in advance.

I see you haven’t been dogging it now that summer came. I like this a lot–a really original piece. I love those hands–and the red cloth and all of it. Off-hand I can’t think what to do with the background but I wouldn’t do too much because it can only take away from the fine work of the hands and face. I start to see a slightly relieved marble texture.
You’ve called him a buffoon. I wonder if he will scare some people.
Thank you, Swallows. I made the hands very fast. Took some photos beforehand, which helped a lot. So much easier. But used it only as a reference, didn’t want to fall into the realism trap, where there’s no way out. They’re a little chubby but go with face. I agree about the background, almost feel like leaving it as it is, but some might think it’s unfinished. The title will change. When I made it the “What Magic?” title jumped at me. It felt right at the time, but now I’m not so sure.
What a remarkable change, the 2D face came alive. Those hands are so lifelike.
Thanks, Birgitte. I think the hands make it work. Unfortunately, as someone brought it to my attention, the canvas may not hold all that weight. I have to come up with better idea for these mixed media works.
