Evolution: new sculpture

A while ago I posted an entry about the famous Neolithic Hamangia figurines The Thinker and Seated Woman (https://erikatakacs.wordpress.com/2008/11/29/the-thinker/). I revisit the pair from time to time to admire their gesture and beautifully stylized figures. Whoever made them, it was an artist, no question in my mind. In this work I pay tribute to them and their creator(s). It’s my take on evolution and natural selection. It was a joy to make.

    Thanks, Kevin. I’ve been paying more attention to my compositions lately. I want my sculptures to look good from as many angles as possible. Also, trying to go along with the roughness of the medium. I thought the subject was perfect in that regard.

    love your ideas !!! this is very interesting,exciting,love their facial and body expressions!

    about your q.
    actually i did not used the “wash” technique.i primed the bowl (wall paint)then painted it with three very diluted colours.the primer absorbed nicely the colours giving it the “wash” look.when dried a bit i applied another layer of dried brush beige.that’s all then i varnished it.

    Beautiful work, Erika, a pleasure to study from all angles. I am impressed about your sense of balance, wich I especially enjoy at the last photo, where all the lines are free of eachother, and the soft light and shadows are working the best. I like the surface a lot, and of course the whole idea about your work.
