Erika: Congratulations! She looks like the best attention-getter in the gallery by far, though I can’t judge just how big she is. You’re going to be the champion of paper-mache sculpture. I saw an exhibition of paper figures here (the artist let the newspaper and its print show) and they were all very small and fragile. I saw that one of his big problems was how to display them to make them look important enough. He put some on big boxes. But I see you are going to solve all the problems.

Thanks a lot, Swallows! Her height is 21 inches. They shouldn’t be fragile, unless the pulp is very thin…Well, sometimes I think if I found the right material or not…A while ago I saw someone on a video carving in steel…figures. Life size and larger. I was itching to try it. Imagine the possibilities of not struggling with rigid armatures. We’ll see. I keep my eyes and options open.

Congratulations! This is an amazing feat, especially since it is in paper mache. You are very deserving of the award.

Thank you, Cheryl! I’m glad to see appreciation of the material, it’s sure difficult to manipulate, but it has some wonderful qualities about it.
